Lyrics

Stilled

Neil went mining for a Heart Of Gold
For one so Young he felt so Old (Man)
From Redwood To Hollywood a Harvest to find
Fix The Damage Done by the Needle of time

Watching the last leaf fall to the ground
Counting the days til loves flood is found

Shoveling the mud til the holes are filled – storms are still
The winds are calmed and the storms are stilled – storms are still
We’re shoveling the mud til the holes are filled – storms are still
The winds are calm and the storms are still

Elliott’s fragile Waltzing heart
Circling one, two, three – one, two, three round
He seemed uneasy from the start
Another loss echoes back their sound

Watching the last leaf fall to the ground
Counting the days til loves flood is found

Shoveling the mud til the holes are filled – storms are still
The winds are calmed and the storms are stilled – storms are still
We’re shoveling the mud til the holes are filled – storms are still
The winds are calm and the storms are still

SUNKEN SHIP (Held Beneath The Waves)

Life like a furrowed field to the plough
Reveals the journey travelled up to now
Each twist and turn of the creases in the brow
Memories of the curtains final bow

Stories shared and handed down
Listen carefully to each sound
For Time plans to steal them to their graves
In the sunken ship held beneath the waves

“Please stop by again just to check and say ~ hello
If you have the time before you go
I’ve stories to tell you of how I met my Joe
The man I loved and couldn’t bare to let go”

The photographs hung upon the wall
Happy days captured recall
Time plans to steal them to their graves
In the sunken ship held beneath the waves

Lend a shell to every sound
To the yarns spun handed down
Now shared, no more confined to watery graves
Of the sunken ships held beneath the waves

ONE WAY TICKET

Got myself a one way ticket
My bag’s all packed heading off soon
I need to view a new perspective
Stowed aboard heading for the moon

One way ticket
One way ticket

Up amongst the stars gazing down below
Hidden in a different orbit

Up amongst the stars gazing down below
One way ticket…

CREATURE OF HABIT

A new page waits unwritten
full of all that’s yet to come
A canvas blank untainted
by the spoils of colours run

On in to new territory
gonna take a ride
This creature of habit changing
eyes ablaze, opening wide

Uncharted oceans beckon
new shores on which to stand
The call of the heart undiscovered
tides that draw and pull to land

This creature of habit’s gotta change
get back in the saddle clutching the reins

MONSTERS IN YOUR HEAD

Your sky’s begun to darken
where the storms keep rolling in
Fear’s made your eyes too scared to open
convinced yourself there’s something lurking

All the monsters in your head keep jumping out at you
check underneath your bed
They’re only as big as you choose to make them
so kill them dead

Put up your umbrella
take shelter from the blame
Forgiveness can change the weather
when you get caught out in the rain

SOMEWHERE ELSE

Asleep beneath the same night night sky
we bleed the same and question why?
The dreams you have, well I’ve dreamt them too
you could be me, I could be you

If I stood in the place that you are standing in
would I realise the grace that I’ve been given?
If I was in your shoes would I want a different pair?
to choose another straw and find myself somewhere else

Runners in a human race
born apart at a different place
Fashioned from the self same cloth
that if you weep I feel your loss

LIFT THE LID

You keep spinning circles round and round you go
I’m so giddy from your smiling eyes
You keep grinning like the cat that got the cream
beat your pretty wings and fly

Join up all the dots to see it all make sense
it’s all right here at your finger tips
In pursuit of the light spare no expense
take a peek, look inside – go lift the lid
take a peek, look inside – go lift the lid

I just wanna stay right here where I am
in this perfect moment here with you
Whether it should rain or glow a warm sunshine
gonna lock up in my mind this perfect view

A LITTLE LIGHT

You keep on getting shipwrecked,
crushed underneath the wave.
It only lasts a moment,
but it winds you all the same.
Step back from the canvas,
to bring it back into line.
Help is at hand,
just put yours in mine.

Spread a little love,
and shed a little light.
Flick the switch and ditch the doubt,
and leave it with the night.

You’ve packed your head full of dreams,
that make you smile in the night.
But in the morning when you wake,
they disappear with the light.
So you grab at a moment’s freedom,
to create a head space.
Riding on your bike with the wind,
lapping like a dog at your face.

Learn to spread a little love,
and shed a little light.
Flick the switch and ditch the doubt,
and leave it with the night

BREATHE

You mount your bike and ride with the wind,
lapping like a dog at your face.
Your mind rolls round with the wheels as they race,
make good your escape.

Surface for air, a little peace to retrieve.
The chance to think in a little head space,
let it out… and breathe.
Just breathe.

Queasy, seasick, frayed at the edge,
trying your best.
A million miles from where you thought you’d be,
straining to see.

Beat down a track cut through,
all that’s overgrown.
Uncover the steps trod before,
follow the path back home.

WEATHERED THE STORM

Staring out upon a wide night sky
looking like a map of our lives
Full of Big Dippers and littered Ploughs
of highs and lows truths and white lies
We’ve weathered the storm
yeah we’ve weathered the storm

Into the clouds and out the other side
through wind and rain drenched skies
Baring the scars of the paths that we tried
a love intact a hope that survived

The waves have been like 60 feet high
trying their best to capsize
Bailing out the water doing all but go under
sea sprays been blinding our eyes
We’ve weathered the storm
yeah we’ve weathered the storm

Holding on, we are holding on – coming out the other side
Holding on, we are holding on – coming out the other side

HOUDINI

My shadow sits, drumming it’s fingers
It’s grown tired and bored of me
It’s been threatening to cut itself off
To wriggle free and do a Houdini

Come on save me, come and rescue me
Before the war inside, gets the better of me

Scrape me back off, of the pavement
Come dust me down off the shelf
Plug the holes where I’m dripping through
And sign me a clean bill of health

Let down the anchor, drop overboard it’s chain
Keep the sands from shifting, level my buckled heart again

LET THE LIGHT POUR IN

Throw the windows open
let the light pour in
your painted frames are flaking
The trees are bending over backwards
stooping down to peep in
the sun’s begun shining

Let the light pour in
set to write a new beginning
Let the light pour in
the sun’s begun shining

Your head’s crammed to the rafters
covered in a thick layer of dust
confused what you thought you’d sussed
Complications like a steam roller
have been flattening you down
it’s time to tune into a new sound

And let the light pour in
set to write a new beginning
Let the light pour in
the sun’s begun shining

TAKING THE PLUNGE

Laying awake unable to sleep
on the cusp of something deep
Close my eyes and try counting sheep
but they just huddle up in a heap
Been waiting in a line to be picked
to be called upon to play in the game
Hoping I’ll not be the last one
maybe now is the time for a change

Cause I’ve been too long on the outside
soaking it up like a sponge
Being found with a broadening smile
I’m taking the plunge, taking the plunge

A door is opening
the possibilities roll in
A hand is beckoning
come on in, come on in
My feet are dangling
with my toes just dipping in
The waters are just fine
I’m wading in, wading in

KEEP HOLD

The moon is high and shinning
casting shadows with it’s light
The cars like cans on wheels are rolling
long into the night

The stars are busy concentrating
in a focused bid to shine
I will keep hold of all the love you’ve given
I will keep it close and guard it next to mine

The plane jet engines rumble
travelling above through the sky
Unaware of the sounds of the world spinning round
loosing all sense of the time

IF IT SHOULD FADE

A coffee ring stain is all that remains
to show that you were sitting here
Though the intensity of the colour may change
your occupancy I will forever keep near

You have left your mark
and scratched away at the hole in the dark
Burned a permanence in my heart
that will last even if it should fade
even if it should fade
even if it should fade

I still sense your presence close by kept safe
hidden within my memory
Like an exploding star far away off
your burning bright light still reaches me

FEATHER HOUSE

You’re gonna build a feather house
somewhere soft to lay your head
Take off with the wind to the clouds
from the comfort of your bed

Your feather house will fly
and take you on your way
High above the trees and the falling leaves
and set you down to play

You’ve been looking for a place of peace
somewhere far away
To be pulled in underneath the wings
out of the gust of the day

Your feather house will fly
and take you on your way
High above the trees and the falling leaves
and set you down to play

JUST TO REACH YOU

This train I’m on, chugs along
holding a steady line
As the rattle of the tracks
sync up with my heart
I slip a while back in time
slip a while back in time

To a place that was warmth to the chill
Where the thrill of the day was strong enough to kill
all the memories that wanted to haunt
all the ghosts with their chains and their taunts
To a time I believed with the passion of a heart
worn on the sleeve and ripping through the dark
just to reach you – just to reach you

Shying away, been hiding
it’s high time for a change
Gotten used to keeping
the bench seat warm
gotta get back out in the game
get back out in the game

Just to reach you, just to reach you
Just to reach you, just to reach you

SAFETY IN NUMBERS

A cold wind attempts to hijack my words to dissipate
To scatter my wildest notions I left to go cold on my plate
What if I said how I really felt would you turn and flee
In the opposite direction or would you stand with me?

I’m not gonna make it on my own
I need you
I’ve sailed so far from home
I need you

There’s safety in numbers so I’ve heard it said
When someones got your back covered
Two sets of eyes are better than one
This lone wolf needs a pack with which to run

I’m not gonna make it on my own
I need you
I’ve sailed so far from home
I need you

FIRST TO SEE THE SEA

Jubilant delight fills the carriage of the train
on frenzied heights of glee
There’s a buzz in the air
like a trapped fly trying an escape
wonder if this time it’ll be me
Who’ll be first to see the sea?

Noses pressed up against the window
round one more bend and a tree
Suitcase packed
got my bucket and spade
sun cream ready, one, two, three
Who’ll be first to see the sea?

The box that held all the lemon marmalade sandwiches
is empty and the flask has only a dreg of coffee left
Seagulls hang on the wind
smell of sea salt’s in the air
should be there in time for tea
Who’ll be first to see the sea?

I was first to see the sea

PLUCKED FROM THE WATERS

Like a punctured tyre gradually deflating,
I’d been fading away.
A chain that had slipped falling out of gear,
in a vanishing trick of decay.
Outspoken bursts of a dwindling light,
a ship slowly sinking down.
Out of sync, out of depth, two right feet with no left,
Off balance, nose diving to the ground.

Plucked from the waters, pulled from the sea
Like a stay of execution in a last minute reprieve.

Stood on only one leg, couldn’t find the other,
got knocked down from my perch.
In a shabby looking robe and a tarnished crown,
that I’d been kicking round in the dirt.
Eyes wide and blazing waking from a dream,
mulling questions of an empty cup.
Kneeling at a crossroad needing a decision,
A conviction of truth woke me up.

OCEANS IN A SHELL

Mermaids and Sirens with secrets to tell.
Whale songs haunting, a captivating spell.
Drawing us closer,
to the sharp and jagged rocks.
Serving up a little danger,
crocodiles with ticking clocks.

There are oceans in a shell,
if we learn to listen really well.
Will the nails we hammer seal our fate?
We’re taking on water, hope it’s not too late.

Our ship’s hull has started to swell,
there’s a clanging crashing sound, the ringing of an alarm bell.
Will we find our sea legs,
or are we jumping ship?
Releasing lifeboats, holding our breath,
and biting our lips.

There are oceans in a shell,
if we learn to listen really well.
Sending up a distress flare.
Hope our oars don’t snap and leave us adrift somewhere.
